More Flow for the 2.0 TDI – Development of Our New TurboInlet Has Begun

With our new TurboInlet for the 2.0 TDI with 190 HP, we are launching a targeted performance upgrade for one of the often underestimated components in the intake system of the VAG diesel platform.

The goal of the development is to optimize the airflow before the turbocharger, reduce pressure losses, and noticeably improve the engine's response – without compromising everyday usability or OEM integration.


Current Development Status

The project is currently in an early, but already very important, phase:

  • the first design is complete
  • the fluid dynamics simulation (CFD) has been successfully performed
  • the data obtained from it forms the basis for the current design
  • we are currently in the waiting phase for the first prototypes

As soon as the prototypes are completed, the first test installation in the vehicle will take place to validate the real behavior compared to the simulation.


CFD Simulation Results

Based on the completed fluid dynamics simulation, clear optimization potentials compared to the OEM part have already been identified:

  • approx. 19% reduced pressure loss compared to the series turbo inlet
  • approx. 10% increased fluid volume for optimized air supply
  • significantly improved flow guidance without critical constrictions
  • more uniform and efficient air supply to the turbocharger

These values come from the simulation and serve as the technical basis for the next development stage.


Why a TurboInlet?

The standard turbo inlet of many 2.0 TDI engines in the VAG group represents one of the first restriction points in the intake system. Even here, unnecessary losses occur in the airflow, which can affect the efficiency and response of the turbocharger.

Our approach is to specifically optimize precisely this area and make the airflow as efficient as possible.


Next Step: Prototype & Test Installation

The next step in the development process is the production of the first prototypes.

These will then be installed in the vehicle and tested under real conditions. The focus will be on:

  • Fit accuracy in the OEM system
  • Behavior under load
  • Actual turbocharger response
  • Comparison of simulation vs. reality

Only after this phase will the design be finally approved and, if necessary, further optimized.


Compatibility

The TurboInlet is primarily being developed for the 2.0 TDI with 190 HP and should generally be integrable into several VAG vehicles with this engine.

The final vehicle coverage will be precisely defined and expanded after the prototype and testing phase is completed.
