After several months of development, the time has come: Pre-sales of our new High-Flow Turbo Inlet for the Audi / VW 3.0 TDI V6 EA896 Generation 2 (Euro 5) start today.
With this turbo inlet, we are expanding our portfolio of flow-optimized intake components with another variant for the EA896 engine family. The aim of the development was to further optimize the airführung between the intake system and the turbocharger and to reduce the aerodynamic disadvantages of the standard pulsation damper.
As with all RevDop products, the focus was not only on computer-aided design, but also on practical testing under real conditions.
Development with CFD and Bionic Flow Optimization
The basis of our new turbo inlet is extensive CFD flow simulations.
The airflow within the standard pulsation damper was analyzed and areas with increased flow losses were identified. Subsequently, a completely new internal geometry was developed, based on bionic flow principles.
The result is a more controlled airflow to the turbocharger's compressor with the aim of reducing turbulence and providing the air mass with as little loss as possible.
First Practical Tests at TMR GmbH
After the development phase was completed, the new turbo inlet was tested together with TMR GmbH on an Audi A4 B8 3.0 TDI with Stage 2 software.
The initial focus was on:
- Accuracy of fit
- Ease of installation
- Behavior under load
- Evaluation of air mass values
- Performance measurements
The results so far confirm the development approach.
Especially in the mid-range RPMs, a higher air mass was observed compared to the series component. The first performance measurements also show the positive trends known from our previous developments.
Further Tests Already Planned
Development is not complete with today's pre-sale launch.
In the coming weeks, further vehicles with EA896 Generation 2 will be checked for compatibility. At the same time, we are carrying out additional log runs and comparison measurements to document the effect of the turbo inlet on different vehicle configurations.
Another important development step is already planned:
An Audi A4 B8 3.0 TDI with standard engine software will also be extensively tested. The aim is to transparently illustrate the differences between standard vehicles and performance-enhanced vehicles and to publish additional measurement results.
As soon as this data is available, we will of course add it.
Why We Rely on Real Measurements
Many intake components are developed exclusively based on theoretical calculations or simulations.
At RevDop, we take a different approach.
While CFD simulations form the basis of every development, the results in the vehicle are crucial for us. Therefore, our products are additionally verified through log runs, performance measurements, and practical tests.
Only in this way can the actual influence of optimized airflow on air mass supply and driving behavior be understood.
Industrial Production from PA12
The new turbo inlet is also manufactured using the industrial Multi-Jet Fusion process from high-quality PA12.
This material offers:
- high temperature resistance
- high dimensional stability
- excellent chemical resistance
- low weight
- precise reproducibility
This makes the component ideal for continuous use in the engine compartment of modern turbodiesel engines.

Since each turbo inlet is manufactured using industrial 3D printing after the order is received, delivery will be in the order of receipt.
With the pre-sale, we want to give interested customers the opportunity to secure one of the first series products, while further tests and measurements are carried out in parallel.

Outlook
Work on the EA896 platform continues. In addition to further compatibility tests, we are planning additional comparative measurements on standard and performance-enhanced vehicles.
