The 2.0 TDI EA288 with 190 PS already offers a powerful combination of turbocharger and diesel engine ex works. However, with increasing engine performance and higher airflow, the quality of the intake system also gains importance.

This is precisely where the RevDop Performance Bundle comes in.

The system combines a completely newly developed performance air filter box with bionic air ducting and a turbo inlet specially designed for the 190 PS EA288 version.

Instead of merely enlarging the cross-section of individual components, the entire air path was considered as a system. The goal of the development was to guide the airflow as controllably as possible from the filter element to the turbocharger, thereby reducing unnecessary resistance within the intake.

The result is an intake system that can particularly demonstrate its strengths at higher air masses and under load.

Developed for the Requirements of the 190 PS EA288

With 190 PS, the EA288 is one of the more powerful variants in its series. Accordingly, the required air mass flow also increases at high load.

Standard intake systems must meet numerous requirements simultaneously – from noise development and installation space to costs and manufacturing effort.

RevDop pursues a different development approach.

The geometries were specifically designed to meet the fluid dynamic requirements of the engine. The focus was particularly on uniform flow patterns, clean transitions, and the most efficient possible flow to the turbocharger.

Performance Air Filter Box with Bionic Geometry

The specially developed air filter box forms the first part of the optimized intake tract.

Its complex internal geometry was developed using CAD construction and CFD simulations. This allowed areas to be identified and reworked where conventional geometries lead to unnecessary deflections or unfavorable flow conditions.

The bionic design enables controlled air guidance within the housing.

It is not solely about providing as much volume as possible. What is crucial is how the air moves within this volume.

Optimized Filter Element for Uniform Flow

The air filter box includes a specially adapted performance filter element.

The shape of the filter was chosen to match the geometry of the housing. This ensures that the available filter surface can be flowed through as uniformly as possible.

Especially with high air volumes, uniform utilization of the filter surface is crucial to avoid local flow peaks and unnecessary resistance.

The filter is therefore not to be regarded as an isolated component, but as part of the entire flow chain. The rounded geometry of the filter also ensures less pressure loss and a more homogeneous flow.

Turbo Inlet Specifically for the 190 PS EA288

At the end of the intake path, the flow to the turbocharger largely determines how efficiently the inducted air reaches the compressor inlet.

The RevDop Turbo Inlet for the 190 PS EA288 was therefore developed with a geometry tailored to this engine.

Due to the organic funnel-shaped geometry, the turbocharger is flowed through more cleanly and with less loss, which affects responsiveness and the longevity of the axial turbine geometry.

Together with the performance air filter box, this creates continuous flow optimization from the air inlet to the turbocharger.

Why the Combination is Crucial

A single optimized component can only have a limited effect if there is still a flow-related bottleneck directly before or after it.

Therefore, the RevDop Bundle connects both areas:

Air Filter Box → Filter Element → Intake Path → Turbo Inlet → Turbocharger

The components were developed to collectively generate the most consistent airflow possible.

This makes the bundle particularly interesting for vehicles where the 2.0 TDI EA288 190 PS has already been performance-enhanced or where performance optimization is planned for the future.

Developed with CFD instead of by Feel

The development of RevDop intake systems is based on digital flow analyses.

With the help of CFD simulations (Computational Fluid Dynamics), flow patterns within the components can be visualized and specifically analyzed.

This allows geometries to be further developed not only visually or structurally, but also based on their actual fluid dynamic properties.

Especially with complex bionic shapes, this is an essential part of the development process.

The Result: A More Efficient Basis for Performance Setups

The Performance Bundle is not designed to attract attention through an aggressive modification.

The focus is on a technically well-thought-out optimization of the air path.

The advantages lie particularly in:

  • improved air guidance
  • reduced flow losses
  • more uniform flow to the turbocharger
  • optimized flow conditions at higher air masses
  • more direct responsiveness
  • an improved basis for performance enhancements

Additionally, the more open and flow-optimized design provides a significantly more present intake and turbocharger sound.

Suitable for 2.0 TDI EA288 with 190 PS

The bundle was specifically developed for 2.0 TDI EA288 engines with 190 PS.

Possible applications include:

  • Volkswagen Passat B8
  • Škoda Superb 3V

Actual compatibility must be checked using the engine code and vehicle version.

Not suitable for EA288 EVO.

The EA288 EVO engine generation uses a different design for the intake and turbocharger area. The turbo inlet developed for the 190 PS EA288 is therefore not compatible with these engines.

Installation

The Performance Bundle is designed to use the existing mounting points.

The components can be installed without extensive modifications to the vehicle.

If the product is in stock, shipping preparation usually takes place within 2–3 business days.

For products not in stock, a delivery time of up to 3 weeks may occur due to individual manufacturing.

Area of Application & Legal Notice

The product has no ABE, no parts certificate, and no parts type approval.

It is not approved for use in public road traffic within the scope of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO).

Use is exclusively for motorsport purposes, export vehicles, or operation outside public roads.

Installation may lead to the expiration of the operating license according to §19 StVZO.

An individual inspection according to §21 StVZO may be possible in individual cases. Whether and under what conditions an approval is possible must be clarified with a corresponding testing organization, such as TÜV or DEKRA, before installation.
