Why an Airscoop in the 5 Series?

The air scoop directs the oncoming airflow directly towards the air filter housing. This allows more cool ambient air to reach the engine – perfect for the 540i-B58 , which is particularly sensitive to a clean, cool air supply.

Note regarding active air flap control

The 5 series uses an active cooling louvre that opens or closes depending on the temperature and load condition.
As soon as the flaps open, the air scoop receives ideal airflow and delivers its full performance benefit.
Optionally, the flaps can be adjusted or opened – depending on the individual setup.
